A mural, designed by incoming 10th-grader Arik Gilbert, will be unveiled in the Mt. Anthony Union High School cafeteria, August 19. The mural was a part of the high school’s Sexuality and Gender Awareness Alliance (SAGAA) club’s mission to spread awareness and acceptance within the school community. SAGAA advisor Chloe West secured a grant from The Vermont Community Foundation’s Opportunity Fund for Southshire Youth.
The design was voted on by high school staff and students, and worked on over the summer by West and students from SAGAA. The mural is meant to show that all students are welcome, and that “Patriot Pride Comes in All Colors.”
This unveiling comes on the cusp of the Southwest Vermont Supervisory Union’s focus on equity for the 2021-2022 school year.
